Good evening everyone. I’m sure some of you already know that the president spoke to us tonight. He was on Prime time on CNN and some of the other major stations. In a nutshell he, basically made his speech to get some more support for the war in Iraq. I think he made a distinct call to mention 9/11 about 6 times during his speech. Saying that we were attacked and we can’t wait to be attacked again. We need to get up and do something, and we have been doing something, we’ve been making great progress.
Now how much he says is true, can be argued. We are in Iraq and I’m sure we’ve made some progress. Voting did occur about a year ago. So, some progress has been made, but will we be able to train the Iraqis in time, will we be able to leave the country in the next couple of years is another big question.
One of the things he didn’t mention, he didn’t touch Saddam Hussein. Saddam Hussein’s name didn’t come up at all. If you all remember, that’s the reason we went to Iraq was because of Saddam Hussein, and because of the WMDs. No one mentioned that, it’s the invisible conversation. Everyone just stood completely clear of that.
The reason he bought us to war, originally, was because of weapons of mass destruction. September 11 did help that, but that’s the reason why he told this country he was going to war. And now, a couple of years later, we’re at war with this country and the reasons for it are completely different. So, question is: if another reason occurs, for example something else happens in this country or something else happens in another country, will that cause him to change his reason again? Whichever reason suits him best.
It seems that whichever reason people would take more kindly to, is the reason he uses. It is a great tack tick if your talking to kids. If you’re talking to a little kid that doesn’t want to go to sleep, yeah you make a reason for him to go to sleep if he doesn’t want to listen to the primary reason, which is to get up early tomorrow to go to school.
But we are not little kids, and he doesn’t treat us like adults. But then, most of the country isn’t adult. The fact that he got re-elected shows that the average person in America isn’t an adult, they are just following the next higher up religious leader, which is really hurting this country.
That’s really all I have to say, it is really sad, nothing to really speak about, what I really want to know is how the media is going to handle this tomorrow. I know that he did leave himself open for some criticism with the fact that he didn’t mention Saddam Hussein, and the fact that he mentioned September 11 multiple times.
Something that has been talked about on Air America Radio some questions that callers have been calling in about; What if he does succeed, lets just say that for some bizarre out of the ordinary chance, he does succeed. In a couple of months, in a couple of years. Whatever the case may be, even tomorrow things start turning around in Iraq. Iraqis start getting trained faster, the country starts being built quicker, and we start seeing less violence in Iraq from the insurgents. What would be the next step? We can go two ways: (1) Stop our wars, which would be a great thing or (2) Bush could say, feeew, glad I got out of that one, lets go attack another country. That is what everyone fears. I doubt that anyone would support him.
He does wants to support freedom which, you know what, we like freedom, freedom is good there is no doubt about it. You can discuss practically anyone in a one to one conversation and anyone would agree that freedom is good.
But, to go out and attack countries for freedom and kill them, we are killing people there. It is just wrong. So if we are spreading freedom without massacring anyone including ourselves, I think sure it is a great just cause. But as soon as you start dealing with people’s lives then that’s where you run into a problem.
Lets see what there is to see tomorrow. Keeps your ears open. If you live in South Florida you can listen to Air America Radio AM 940.
