Speaking of Jehovah

Sunday, January 29, 2006

Two Postings ago/down I posted a funny image about what you can put on your door to prevent Jehovah Witnesses from knocking at your door.

Today is Sunday and I like to sleep late like the lazy bastard that I like to be. Around 10:45 I hear a loud pounding in the distance. I was 1/2 wake already from sleeping over ten hours. The pounding didn't go away as quick as I thought it should have. I got up to see if it was my apartment.

I look through the peep-hole and I see 2 gentlemen and a child of about 10 years. I thought of ignoring them for a few reasons: I had just woken up, my breath was kickin' and my face looks smashed. I took a deep breath, and opened the door.

I've always wanted to speak to Jehovah Witnesses. I'm a secular humanist and I disagree with them in most things. I really enjoyed the hour-plus long discussion. I never invited them in. Not sure if that was rude of me?

I was surprised to see that they brought along with them a very young kid. I regret not asking him his age. They made the boy speak within the first 20 seconds of my opening the door. I think that's terrible. If I see the guy, I will ask him his age and update this posting.

I told them that I didn't believe that the Bible was the written/inspired word of god and we discussed some things. They were very nice and were very good at listening to what I had to say. Nothing came of it. I feel as if they walked away from our meeting with more than I did because I doubt many secular people take the time to speak to them and show them the weakness that is faith.

They gave me some literature. I plan to read some of it. The main guy promised to come to my house ( I gave him my address ) and give me a cool documentary that does into detail about the Holocaust and how Jehovah Witnesses of the time did not follow Hitler and were the first to be killed at the concentration camps. I welcome the documentary and told them I admire the Jehovah Witnesses for the piece keepers that they are.
