I read the most interesting article that is really the push I need to buying a telescope. I'm officially going to start looking!According to this article back in the day, Galileo was able, with his child strength telescope, to discover that the moon has mountains and Jupiter has moons, and that the Milky Way is made of individual stars rather than a single continuous substance.
On a dark night, the Milky Way actually casts a shadow! That's crazy!
